The Rev. Dr. Shakira Sanchez-Collins
ASSOCIATE PASTOR
The Rev. Dr. Shakira Sanchez-Collins is a health and wellness expert, physician, minister, and preacher. Poised to make a difference in both the ecclesiastical and medical fields, she has demonstrated her commitment to helping families and communities live well spiritually, physically, and mentally through her work in the church, community and academy. Dr. Sanchez-Collins is a recipient of the Forum for Theological Education Ministry Fellowship and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Dr. Idoreyin Montague Community Action Award, among other awards. A prolific writer, Dr. Sanchez-Collins has been published in Urban Cusp Magazine and ABC News Online. She is currently a columnist for The Christian Recorder.
Dr. Sanchez-Collins is a graduate of Yale University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies and a Master of Divinity degree. Furthering her knowledge, she has studied theology at the University of Cambridge in England, womanist theology in Brazil and sacred music in Germany. She also holds a Doctorate of Medicine degree from Duke University. A fifth-generation preacher, Dr. Sanchez-Collins is an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She currently practices Internal Medicine as a physician and serves as the associate pastor at St James AME Church in Chicago.
